Asperges

Latin English
Asperges me, Domine,
Hyssopo, et mundabor:
Lavabis me,
Et super nivem dealbabor.

Miserere mei, Deus,
Secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.

Gloria Patri, et Filio,
Et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio,
Et nunc, et semper,
Et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen
Cleanse me, O Lord,
With hyssop, and I shall be made clean:
Wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

Have mercy on me, O God,
According to Your great mercy.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end.
Amen
Season: All, except Easter season when Vidi Aquam is sung
Use: Sprinkling rite, at the beginning of Mass

Taken from Psalm 50, these words accompany the sprinkling rite at the outset of Mass.  The final verses of this Psalm tell us that the sacrifice pleasing to God is a contrite spirit, a fitting meditation as we prepare for the Eucharistic sacrifice.
